Success Story – Ashley
Ashley has consented for his real name to be used.
My support worker was the oil to get things going, but I needed a jumpstart and Building Bridges gave me this.
Ashley’s feedback on support received through the programme and from his Building Bridges Support Worker.
Ashley joined the Building Bridges (Swindon) Programme after being referred by his GP surgery.
Ashley left school at the age of 14 with no qualifications and later trained as a mechanic. He enjoyed his role for many years before a significant back injury and multiple operations left him unable to work. Ashley has a partner and a young child and wanted to find a way to support his family, but knew he needed help with this.
Ashley heard about the Building Bridges Programme and was referred for support by his doctor. On joining the programme, Ashley told his Support Worker he had ADHD. He felt frustrated, anxious and was struggling with low mood and low confidence. Ashley had a clear idea of what he wanted to achieve, but needed guidance and support to make progress.
Through the Building Bridges programme Ashley received one-to-one mentoring and coaching from Support Worker Elaine. He also successfully completed a Tools for Success course and a starting your own business course at New College Adult Education. Ashley has since started his own business called Twitch Music Ltd offering DJ and promotion services. He is feeling positive about the future.
