Success Story – Leila
The participant has agreed for her real name to be used.
From my support with Building Bridges, I gained independence skills, as I am now able to get the bus and walk to and from Green Labyrinth myself and feel less anxious when leaving the home. I have goals for the future of getting a job within Childcare.
Leila’s feedback on support received through the programme and from her Building Bridges Support Worker.
Leila joined the Building Bridges programme in December 2024. During the initial meeting with her allocated support worker, she said she felt anxious and vulnerable when leaving her home and completing everyday tasks. Because of this, Leila had not been in education for a year as she was unable to travel independently.
Whilst Leila felt anxious about leaving her home her goal was to return to education and travel independently. When looking at her next steps, Leila said she would like to focus on building her confidence and completing maths and English qualifications so she could work towards employment in a childcare setting.
After visiting Green Labyrinth, Leila liked the working environment and the fact the classes were small so she could have the support she needed. She was anxious that it was located close to the town centre, but when looking at walking routes, we found that she wouldn’t need to walk through the centre and supported her decision to apply for a place.
During this time, Building Bridges Support Worker Caitlin caught the bus together with Leila (to and from the town centre), building her confidence each time. Whilst Leila had moments of self-doubt during her journey with the programme, she eventually progressed to travelling independently which was a positive step forward.
Leila is now studying at Green Labyrinth, getting the bus and walking by herself. She is looking towards the future and, after Green Labyrinth, would like to explore courses at college, especially childcare or finding employment within a nursery setting.
“Leila has progressed really well; she has gained confidence in getting the bus to and from Green Labyrinth. This is something she would never be able to achieve if it wasn’t for the help of the Inspire Programme. Caitlin has definitely been an inspiration to our daughter, and we will forever be grateful.”
